Flat Heads are a popular head style in many applications, none more so than in woodworking and furniture manufacturing.  The V-shaped head, commonly available in both 82° and 100° profiles, allows the screw to be countersunk into the surface material, affording a completely flush profile.  The Slot Drive accepts standard blade screwdrivers, making it a universally accessible drive style.  When used properly with the recommended bit size, Slot Drives require far less downward pressure to drive the screws than that required by a Phillips recess.
