A563 Heavy Hex Nuts at Empire Bolt & Screw

Heavy Hex Nuts are wider and thicker than standard Finished Hex Nuts.  They are used with mating Structural or Heavy Hex Bolts.  Because of their increased thickness leading to greater length of thread engagement, these are the strongest of all comparably-graded nuts.  They also offer the greatest resistance to nut dilation, a widening or stretching of the minor diameter of the nut, reducing the effective shear area of both the internal and external threads, thus weakening the entire joint and leading to loosening and eventual failure.  A563 Heavy Hex Nuts are designed for general structural and mechanical applications.  They are available in a variety of grades, including Grades A, B, C/C3, and DH/DH3, each grade corresponding to a unique size range, Proof Load and Hardness.  They may be supplied Plain Finish or Hot Dipped Galvanized.
