Wing Nuts are nuts with 2 opposing wings that are designed for manual tightening and loosening without the use of a wrench or driver.  They are ideal in applications where a non-critical component needs to be disassembled and reassembled frequently, such as a lid on a piece of equipment. 
 
Wing Nuts are widely available in various materials and finishes.  The 4 main types of Wing Nuts are:
 

• Type A:  cold forged or cold formed solid nuts
• Type B:  hot forged solid nuts
• Type C:  die-cast solid nuts
• Type D:  stamped sheet metal nuts

 
Within these various types, there are options of Regular, Light and Heavy Patterns, and Low, Moderate, or High Wings.
