Nylon Insert Locknuts (“Nylon Nuts”) are easily the most prevalent type of Lock Nut on the market today. They are a Hex Nut with a permanently fixed nylon ring or collar at one end.  The internal diameter of the nylon material in the collar is slightly smaller than the internal nut thread minor diameter.  Once the external threads of the mated part comes in contact with the Nylon Insert Locknut’s nylon collar, a tight, frictional fit is created between the threads, thus restricting the loosening of the parts under vibrational forces.  Because of the relatively low cost of achieving fastener locking, Nylon Insert Lock Nuts are one of the most popular styles of locknuts used in mass production assembly.
