Keps (or K-Lock) Style Locknuts are all-metal locknuts that come pre-assembled with a captive yet free-spinning lock washer, usually external tooth.  Keps Locknuts do not lock onto mating threads; instead, they rely on firm tightening against the bearing surface which allows the teeth of the lock washer to bite into that surface, thus locking it into position and resisting vibrational loosening forces.  Because of their all-metal composition, Keps Locknuts are preferred in many high temperature and chemical applications.
